Donald Trump’s family business accelerated its hiring of overseas employees on temporary visas this year, while his government was creating barriers for other companies wanting to do the same, an analysis released Thursday stated.
According to information from the US Department of Labor, the business sought to bring in at least 184 overseas employees in 2025 for short-term roles at the former president’s Florida property, two golf clubs and his Virginia winery.
The number of applications for temporary work visas covering workers including servers, office assistants, housekeepers, culinary employees and farm workers was the highest ever filed by the organization, and increased from 121 in 2021, when Trump’s first term ended.
It was also the fifth time in a decade that Trump had sought to bring in more than 100 foreign employees for temporary positions at his Florida resort, based on available data.
The revelation comes amid a tightening on immigration laws by his administration that has included the introduction of a $100,000 fee on H1-B visas; increased review of the actions of the 55 million people who possess American work permits; and tighter regulations for international scholars and reporters.
In total, the business sought to hire over 560 overseas workers over the period the former president has been in the presidency, from his first term and during 2025.
Significantly, Trump was questioned by certain in the GOP this period for comments justifying the necessity for foreign workers when a company was unable to find people with “particular skills” to fill particular roles.
“You can’t just say a country is entering, going to spend $10bn to construct a plant, and going to recruit individuals off an unemployment line who haven’t worked in five years, and they’re going to start making their missiles. It doesn’t work that effectively,” he told a host after she suggested that overseas employees lower the wages of US workers.
The White House declined a inquiry for response, and the Trump Organization did not immediately respond to an inquiry.
