Kansas City Chiefs Acknowledge Alleged Abuse Claims Involving Player the Athlete

The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment Wednesday night stating they have knowledge of claims of abuse made public in online accounts by a ex-partner of wide receiver the athlete and had been in contact with the league office.

The organization did not mention Rice specifically in their announcement and stated they would have “no further comment at this time”.

Claims Shared on Social Media

Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on Instagram that seemed to depict indicators of bodily harm. She did say the individual in question was the father of her children, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the team selected in the second round.

Official Complaints Reportedly Not on File

No official complaints were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.

Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles

Rice was absent for the first six games of this season following an NFL suspension for his role in instigating a multi-vehicle accident on a Texas roadway that left multiple people injured. He was sentenced a month of incarceration and probationary supervision after pleading guilty to serious offenses.

On the field, he finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Chiefs finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
